Registrations
All foals should be registered by 31st December in the year of their birth or by the time they are six months old, whichever is later.
Categories for Foal Registrations are:
Mares with First Foal
When a filly has her first foal registered with the MHSPR (Model Horse Shetland Pony Registry), she will need to be registered as a mare and, as I get around to organizing this kind of thing, be given a mare number.
Registration of Foreign Bred Ponies
Please note that the MHSPR is a registry for pure-bred Shetland Ponies. All pedigree Shetland Ponies will have originated from the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, this means we will need to have an American Shetland division and I need to move those ones onto other pages. For now they can stay where they are, but changes will happen in future. Changes which means they will move to different sub-pages. Please continue to register them; they will never be kicked out.

The height limit for adult British ponies is 42in (10.2hh). Ponies over 34in (8.2hh) are Standard and ponies 34 (8.2hh) and under are known as Miniatures.
A dam’s registration does not change to “Mare” until the foal has been registered.
Shetland ponies will be given a Stud-Book number in future. This number will remain with the pony throughout its "life."
When:
> a filly has her first foal
> a colt is registered as a gelding or
> a colt successfully passes the Examination to become a stallion
an additional mare, gelding or stallion number is added to the pony's number.
